Fostering Creativity

Fostering Creativity is a comprehensive theatre arts and film-making program.

Core Creativity
FI’s Fostering: Creativity program consists of two concurrent tracks. The first track, Core Creativity, is an ongoing theater residency that begins with a 10-week Introduction to Theater Course.During the Introduction to Theater Course, youth meet as a group and individually with their mentors. They learn about acting via a variety of acting methods and tools. They also attend a live theater performance, and afterward participate in an educational dialogue with instructors, mentors and/or cast members about the play's content and their overall theater experience. Youth are partnered with an adult mentor and begin rehearsing a professional short play which is tailored to their personalities and/or life experiences. Youth and mentors continue to learn about acting through instruction, direction and the overall rehearsal process, culminating in the Core Creativity Youth Take the Stage performance night.

Masters of Creativity
Upon successful completion of Core Creativity, youth are invited to become a member of the FI Masters of Creativity program, where they continue to learn about all the various elements of theater, film, and acting through a variety of workshops, classes, performances and community service. Workshops and classes are taught by professionals in the field. Each Masters of Creativity activity runs alongside the Core Creativity program, and 8-10 youth participate in each session. The program is kept small in order for youth to feel more comfortable in expressing themselves and developing life-long bonds with mentors and other youth with similar life experiences.
